Towards the construction of sustainable university management at the universidad de oriente núcleo de Anzoátegui

Abstract

The socio-environmental problems have been the object of refl ection and study for several decades, in recent years international organizations such as UNESCO, UNEP, the OAS, the OEI, among others; They have made a series of initiatives as events, pronouncements among them the Decade of Education for the Sustainable Future 2005-2014, despite the results of the Rio 2012 Conference and the 2012 Peoples Summit, they give an alert, of the serious consequences of the deterioration of the planet. Faced with this situation, universities should not remain indifferent, including in their management Sustainable Development (SD), in order to integrate efforts around institutional plans that allow the fulfi llment of goals in this area. The objective of this paper is to propose the foundations and basic areas of the action plan for the promotion and promotion of SD in the operational, administrative and support activities of the campus of the Universidad de Oriente. The research carried out is of documentary and fi eld type, having as
strategic axes: a) Environmental Management System; b) Environmental Culture; and c) Linkage between the members of the university community. The results obtained in the initial diagnosis point to the lack of guidelines related to SD in campus management, problems in waste management, uncontrolled use of resources (water, electricity), little maintenance of green areas and infrastructure. It is concluded that the Universidad de Oriente, Núcleo Anzoátegui lacks guidelines and practices related to
sustainable institutional management.
