Abstract

Bibliometrics and scientometrics are methodological approaches used for the analysis of academic literature, including the production, organisation and relationships between authors and scientific publications. The paper examines the laws governing
scientific production and the application of statistics and computer science in bibliometrics studies. It also highlights the importance of bibliometrics in understanding scientific production and in guiding scientific policies in Venezuela, providing evidence of
different initiatives in the country, as well as others promoted by Oncti. In this study, bibliometrics indicators, obtained through primary and secondary sources, were compiled to provide a snapshot of scientific production in Venezuela in 2023, documenting the difficulties in producing appropriate, complete, formal and updated data that are essential to provide the recommendations that, by law, the competent body in Science, Technology and Innovation demands. Finally, conclusions are presented that aim to overcome the limitations for access to efficient indexes of Venezuelan scientific publications.
