Abstract

The essay proposes leveraging science, technology, and innovation to bolster Venezuela’s agricultural sector and
achieve food sovereignty and security. It analyzes the current state of Venezuelan agriculture, highlighting its historical trajectory, key crops, challenges (like land concentration and technological backwardness), and existing opportunities (rich biodiversity and potential for technological advancement). The core argument centers on the National Observatory of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Oncti) importance in monitoring progress, identifying priorities, and guiding policy interventions to promote sustainable
agricultural practices and technological adoption. Ultimately, the paper advocates for a comprehensive, CTI-driven strategy to transform Venezuelan agriculture into a sustainable engine of economic growth and food security.
